So you're thinking about stating up a fitness routine. There are so many options out there that you can do. Before you just jump into one, or head to the gym to create your own, there are a few things to keep in mind. In order to have a well rounded, sustainable workout routine, you should consider including these 5 things.

1. Something fun! Make sure it's something enjoyable so that you're more motivated to actually do it! If you hate running. Like HATE, despise, it's the last thing you want to ever do, don't do it! There are plenty of other things you can be doing that exert the same if not more energy and are probably more enjoyable to you! Love to swim, great! Add it in! When you actually enjoy what you're doing, you'll be much more likely to continue to do it.

2. Progressive Overload. What does that mean? You need to be getting better overtime. Progressive overload is increasing the weight, time, or reps of an exercise over time. For example, if you do the same number of bicep curls every week for 6 weeks using the same weight, nothing will really change. Your form might improve but because your muscles aren't being challenged, torn and rebuilt, they will not get any stronger. Which is why including progressive overload in any workout you are doing is going to get you the best results therefor making your workout routine even better!

3. Rest. On the topic of your muscles tearing during workouts, you need to allow them some rest in order for them to recover and rebuild. Rest is absolutely essential in any workout routine regardless of what you are doing. Your body works hard and needs to rest and recover in order to see changes.

4. Something that is creating a well rounded body. Your workout should not be injuring you over and over and over. Will you be sore? Yes, most likely. However, you shouldn't be doing a type of training that is promoting injury. Meaning you need to be doing movements that are promoting overall health and wellness. Don't do things that are going to hurt you, do things that are going to increase your ability to move in a healthy manner.

5. Sustainability. You should be able to stick to your training program. When life gets busy, when things get hard, you should still be able to stick to your training. If you're doing a type of training that is taking you an hour and half or training 7 days a week, will you be able to do that if things get crazy in life. Most likely not. Make sure you're doing something that you can and will continue to do for the long run.

Keep these few things in mind when creating your workout routine and it will be a fun journey that will create a healthy, well rounded body!
